Your anaesthetic
We know no two patients are the same, that’s why we provide a range of anaesthetic options to suit everyone.
From general anaesthesia, to spinal, epidural and local anaesthetic nerve blocks, we’ll work with you to find out which option suits you best, ensuring peace of mind and the highest quality of care during your treatment.
If you’d like more information, you’ll find a series of useful patient information guides here. Produced by The Royal College of Anaesthetists and The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, they’re clearly written and a great resource. Anaesthetic Choices for Hip and Knee Surgery and Your Spinal Anaesthetic are particularly helpful.
Anaesthetic support is provided by Dr Michael Cooper, a full-time consultant at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and a Fellow the Royal College of Anaesthetists and Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
Dr Cooper provides a range of options for anaesthesia and pain relief for both adults and children, including intravenous anaesthetic techniques and the use of regional analgesia (pain blocks) to help recovery.
